Specialist Gregory Allen Johnson, Sr. Army Veteran at the age of 65, lost his battle to cancer on June 28, 2025. He was born on May 11, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois to Thedore and Betty Johnson.
He was a graduate of DuSable High School in Chicago, Illinois.
Greg proudly served in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable military service, he pursued his lifelong passion for the culinary arts, and he continued his career as a chef. He found fulfillment in preparing meals, and sharing his love of food with family, friends, and the community. He was known to all as "Chef Greg".
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Johnson, father, Theodore Franklin Johnson, Sr.; Willma Small Smith (sister-aunt): her husband, Micheal Smith; and Beverly Johnson (Charles); and one son (lost in prebirth).
He is survived by his loving wife, Jonell A. Brown: sons, Gregory A. Johnson, Jr.: Nathan A. Johnson: Malcolm R. Johnson (Harlee), and Marcus X. Johnson (Dagnny); daughter, Marquita J. Brown; siblings, Theadus Johnson (Louise), Raymond Johnson (Jacqueline Jospeh), Jeanette Lloyd (Rublin), Virginia Johnson, Jacqueline Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Jr. (deceased) (Arnie Johnson).

A devoted soul, Gregory, touched the lives of many. His laughter filled the air with warmth, and his spirit illuminated the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. He embodied kindness and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.
Greg will forever remain in our hearts, his spirit dancing among us, shining brightly like the stars on a clear night.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.
