Gregory Allen Johnson, age 64, took his final bow on June 28, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Gregory was born on May 11, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, to the proud parents Theodore Sr. and Betty Johnson. He accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age, beginning a lifelong walk of faith.
He was educated in the Chicago Public Schools and graduated from DuSable High School in 1979. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he discovered his passion for cooking. He rose to the rank of Specialist (E-4) and received an honorable discharge after completing his service. Gregory then pursued his passion for the culinary arts by graduating from culinary school and becoming a professional chef.
Gregory shared 28 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Jonell Brown Johnson. From his previous marriage to Cynthia Williams, he had two sons: Gregory Johnson Jr. and Nathan Johnson (spouse Tiara). With Jonell, he had two sons: Malcolm Johnson (spouse Harlee)and Marcus Johnson (spouse Dagnny)and lovingly embraced his stepdaughter, Marquita Brown, as his own. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather to seven grandchildren.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Sr. and Betty Johnson; his son Brandon Johnson (lost in pre-birth); and three siblings: Theodore Jr., Charles Johnson, and Beverly Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jonell Brown Johnson; his children: Gregory Jr., Nathan (Tiara), Malcolm (Harlee)Marcus(Dagnny)and Marquita; seven beloved grandchildren; siblings: Theodus Johnson (Louse), Raymond Johnson (Jacqueline), Jeanette Lloyd (Rubin), and Jacqueline Johnson; sister/aunt Wilma Smith; sisters-in-law Virginia Johnson and Armie Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Gregory loved cooking and proudly shared his culinary talents with everyone he met—family, friends, and even strangers. His warm smile, generous heart, and joyful spirit made a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
