Greg Alan Dalin

November 24, 1950 — December 10, 2025

Greg Alan Dalin unexpectedly left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior December 10th, 2025 at the age of 75. He was born to Burton and Nadine Dalin in St. Peter, Minnesota on November 24th, 1950 in St. Peter, Minnesota. He leaves his loving wife Teresita of 29 years or Tess, as we all love and know her.

Greg was confirmed in First Lutheran Evangelical Church in Winthrop, Minnesota in 1964 and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1968.

Greg loved his family and others with a love of life! He ALWAYS had a story to tell! He loved snowmobiling and a nice car ---anything that went fast, much to the dismay of his mother.

Greg was a strong young man, and at an early age he was making runs with his Dad who ran the ambulance service in the small town of Winthrop. His father also was a mortician who owned the Dalin funeral home and Furniture store. Greg had already received training in trauma, illness and yes, death at a very young age.

He went to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy January 8, 1969, following in his father’s footsteps, who served in the Navy during World War II as a Medical Corpsman. Greg knew that was the right fit for him, and he came to be known as “Doc”. He loved the military, and he devoted his life to it, and for those that served with him.

Master Chief Hospital Corpsman

Greg Dalin joined the Navy on 8 January 1969 and attended Boot Camp in San Diego, Ca. and Hospital Corps School in San Diego. Then it was on to Field Medical School at Camp Pendleton, Ca., Naval Air Test Center in Pautuxent River, Md and the Washington Navy Yard Clinic in Washington D.C., finally he completed his first tour as a Line Company Corpsman with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

His next appointment sent him to Navy Recruiting Command at the Federal Building in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After making First Class he volunteered for Submarine Duty and went to Submarine School and Independent Duty Corpsman School in New London, CT. After Graduation he reported in August 1977 to the USS Ethan Alan (SSBN 608) (Blue) attached to Submarine Squadron 15 in Pearl Harbor, HI. This was the beginning of a legend. His next Submarine was the USS New York City (SSN 696) attached to Submarine Squadron Seven in Pearl Harbor, Hi. He was then assigned to Submarine Squadron One in Pearl Harbor as the Senior Corpsman responsible for inspecting the Medical Department, and Radiation Health Programs on 10 Nuclear Powered Submarines and One Submarine Rescue Ship. During his time on the Squadron One Staff, he road all the Submarines in the Squadron, Three Japanese, 4 Australian, and 2 British Submarines. He then reported to the USS Buffalo (SSN 715) attached to Submarine Squadron One Pearl Harbor Hi and finally to the USS CAVALLA (SSN684) where he made Master Chief and served as Chief of the Boat on his First Master Chief Tour. Master Chief Dalin has served on more Submarines and spent more time at sea on Submarines than any Corpsman in the History of the Navy.

After his time in the Submarine Navy, Master Chief was assigned as the Command Master Chief for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Kaneohe Hawaii where he also served as the Medical Planner for the South Pacific. His next assignment took him to Pensacola, FL as the Command Master Chief for the Naval Hospital. He then attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy prior to reporting to the USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73) in Pearl Harbor Hi as the Command Master Chief. His final tour of duty was Command Master Chief of the Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity at Naval Station, Ingleside TX.

Command Master Chief Dalin has many Personnel and Unit awards. He retired from the Navy on 1 Nov 2000, after which he worked as a Designer for Onyx Engineering in Corpus Christi, TX. He has four sons, one of whom is currently active-duty Navy and another who is currently a Navy reservist. He also has a nephew who is now retired Navy.

Greg continued his service to his fellow veterans whom he respected and honored as he was very active in the local VFW as a VFW Commander.

A Hero's Welcome

 By Robert Longley

Time to come home dear brother

Your tour of duty through

You've given as much as anymore

Could do expected to do

Just a few steps further

The smoke will start to clear

Others here will guide you

You have no need of fear

You have not failed your brother

You clearly gave it all

And through your selfless actions

Others will hear the call

So take your place of honor

Among those who has gone before

And know you will be remembered

For now, and evermore
