George Kellett Irish, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior following an illness on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his residence in Rockport, TX surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 21, 1940 in Newport, RI to Harold S. and Mildred K. Irish of Portsmouth, RI where he grew up.

He had one sister, Alice Williams. His parents and sister have preceded him in death.

George graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy. George was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard he traveled to Antarctica on an icebreaker that brought supplies to set up a research station there. He worked for the Central Intelligence Agency as a telecommunications officer, stationed at U.S. Embassies in Quito, Ecuador, Athens, Greece, Pretoria, South Africa, and Kathmandu, Nepal. While in retirement, he traveled to Mexico where he met and married his surviving wife of 36 years, Claudia Davalos Irish. They moved to Española, NM for one year, then to Rockport, TX where they called home for over thirty years. George started a lawn care business which he ran up until the week before his death. George was known for his hard work, dedication, and good nature, establishing long-lasting relationships and developing friendships.

His son Derek Davalos Irish, and his daughter Paulina Diane Irish of Rockport, TX also survive George. He also leaves behind two children from his previous marriage, daughter Debra Lynn (Stephen) Irish Sullivan, and his son George Kellett Irish Jr. of Castlewood, VA. He had three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

As a young man, George was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He loved animals and was a pigeon fancier as well. He loved to read, loved the ocean and spending time with his family. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed working outside alongside his employees in his lawn care business. His family will have a small, private remembrance for immediate family members. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations are made in his name to the Rockport Public Library or the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport/ Fulton.
