Obituary

George Davis Featherston Jr., was born on May 17, 1944 in Abilene, Texas to George and Nannie Belle Featherston. He passed away on June 22, 2026 in Portland surrounded by his loving wife, close friends and family. He was 82 years, 1 month and 5 days old. 

George is preceded in death by his parents; three Brothers, Richard Leslie, Keith Allen, and Stephen Hugh Featherston; and his brother-in-law, Tommy Lee Warren.

He survived by his wife, Debra; son, Sam Featherston(Kandi); brother, Earl William(Edith); four sisters, Pat Warren, June Baca, Teresa O’Brien, and Peggy Cochrane(Bill); and sisters-in-law, Carol Featherston and Sabine Featherston; In-laws, Fred Schneider(Theresa); brother-in-law, Bob Schneider(Debra); as well as numerous nieces nephews.

George entered the United States Army in Houston, Texas on August 24, 1965. He served a total of 27 years, 10 months, and 7 days. During that time, he accomplished something few are able to do. He became a “Mustang”, meaning he started as a Private and worked his way to become an officer without going through West Point. He was Honorably discharged as Colonel Featherston at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on June 30, 1993. Among many achievements, He was the recipient of a Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with "V" and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Air Medal with "2" Device, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Air Crewman's Badge, Army Parachutist Badge, and Vietnamese Parachutist Badge.

He continued to impact those in the military even after he retired. He was influential in helping those getting out of the military to transition back to civilian living. He truly had a love of country and a heart for the United States.
