Obituary

Frank Robert Sbrusch, Jr., 83, of Rockport, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Elan Corpus Christi Memory Care in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Born on October 26, 1942, in Velasco, Texas (now Freeport), Frank was the son of the late Frank Sbrusch, Sr. and Mary Sbrusch.

From an early age, Frank dreamed of traveling to Alaska, and at age 24, he turned that dream into reality. Alaska became an important chapter in his life, shaping many of his experiences and careers.

Frank proudly served his country as a member of both the Texas National Guard and the Alaska National Guard, serving three years in each. Following his retirement, he dedicated more than 20 years to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, helping patrol the Texas coastline and supporting efforts to monitor maritime safety, environmental concerns, and illegal activities.

Throughout his life, Frank embraced a remarkable variety of occupations, reflecting both his strong work ethic and adventurous spirit. His work included farming and dairy operations, textile manufacturing, oil field roughnecking, heating and air conditioning installation, commercial salmon and king crab fishing in Alaska, work on Alaskan oil drilling platforms, employment in a king crab cannery, service with the Alaska Highway Department, commercial shrimping, construction with Brown & Root, and plant maintenance. He spent the final 29 years of his professional career at the DuPont Corpus Christi Plant in Ingleside, Texas, from which he medically retired in December 2001.

Frank was a true people person who never met a stranger. Friendly, outgoing, and genuinely interested in others, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved people deeply and treated everyone with kindness, respect, and compassion. To his family, he was the kind of father every child hopes to have; to others, he was a man worthy of admiration. His loving heart, gentle spirit, unwavering work ethic, and servant's attitude were a blessing to all who knew him.

His strong Christian faith guided every aspect of his life. For 52 years, he was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, participated in jail ministry, and was an active team member for numerous men's ACTS retreats.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents; his sister, Helen Smith of Wasilla, Alaska; his great-grandson, Brody Newton; and his sisters-in-law, Rose Wears Sbrusch and Retta Medford Salas.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Salas Sbrusch; his daughter, Cyndi Newton and husband Ken; his son, Steven Sbrusch and wife Nova Short; and his four grandchildren, Nathan Newton and wife Amy Fuller, Justin Newton and wife Carrie Verwers, Allyson Roberts and husband Will, and Gavin Sbrusch and three great grand children. He is also survived by his brother, Leroy Sbrusch of Wasilla, Alaska.

A visitation and rosary will be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026.

A second visitation and rosary will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at St. John Catholic Church in New Taiton, Texas, beginning at 12:30 p.m., with the rosary at 1:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. John's Cemetery.
