Elizabeth Nan “Libby” Dennis Ledbetter joined her husband Jerre in the presence of Jesus on Friday, August 7, 2026. Libby was born to James Robert Dennis and SeLeta Lacewell Dennis on September 12, 1932, in Jacksboro, Texas. She met Jerre Ledbetter in the second grade when he moved to Jacksboro, beginning one of the world’s great and enduring love stories.

Libby was an active member and officer in numerous high school organizations, including FHA, Choral Club, Kaen Age Book Club, Interscholastic League competitions, El Chico Club, Assembly Council, FBLA, Press Club, Tigers Tale Staff, Distinction and Honor Roll.

Libby and Jerre enrolled at Texas Tech University and married on September 27, 1950; they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2019. They moved to Rockport, TX in 1964.

Libby spent the early years of their marriage as a housewife supporting Jerre’s career and mothering their four children. She shared her faith with the children through her life and church life. She always took the kids to First Baptist Church for Sunday School and morning church, Sunday Evening Training Union and church, and Wednesday Evening youth groups and prayer meeting. She taught Sunday School and Training Union, served as Girl Scout troop leader and Cub Scout den mother, was room mother to numerous classes, and supported countless school trips and projects.

As the kids grew older, Libby began working outside the home. She worked for several years in the Aransas Natural Gas office and later worked as administrator and accountant for their real estate business.

Music was an important part of Libby’s life, and she shared that passion with her children. She enjoyed rhythm band in grade school and played saxophone throughout high school. Libby was a great pianist and organist as well and shared those gifts with her church. She encouraged her children to love and explore music, supporting their efforts and lessons throughout their youth.

Libby had a great gift for taking on outsized challenges. Once she decided something would happen, you could bank on it. She taught herself to slalom ski (holding the other ski under an arm), and she could unravel any backlash in a fishing reel, carrying on a conversation the entre time. She sewed Easter dresses, prom dresses, sport coats and swimsuits for her kids. After she developed her computer skills, Libby loved to show anyone what new and wonderful things she learned to do with it.

Libby was proud to mother her four children: Vera Elizabeth “Junie” Ledbetter Broyles (Gaston, deceased) of Austin, Margaret Sue “Parkie” Ledbetter Luce (Dayne) of Rockport, John Ledbetter (Toni) of Seneca, SC, and Annette Ledbetter of Stephenville, TX. She and Jerre provided them with boundless love, countless educational opportunities, and unforgettably epic road trip vacations.

Libby also reveled in time with her grandchildren: Julainne Mills (Jason) of Richmond, Christopher Scheumack (Annie) of Olathe, KS, Dustie Lumpkin (Troy) of New Braunfels, Cody Hill (Dina) of Rockport, Zachary Luce (MariaJose) of San Antonio, Katie Whitten (Russ) of Rockport, Patrick Ledlee (Judy) of Durham, NC, Keely Ledbetter (David Nolan) of Centennial, CO, Andrew Ledbetter (Michelle) of Tucson, AZ, Colin Ledbetter of Muncie, IN, Becca Harris of Luverne, MN, Trent Harris of Stephenville, and Jenny Beth (Andrew) Murray of Fort Worth. In addition, Libby enjoyed loving her great-grandson Davion Luce and great-great-grandsons Athan Luce and Kyson Luce.

Libby is predeceased by her parents, husband Jerre, daughter Junie Ledbetter Broyles, and her three brothers: James Robert Dennis, Jr., Rogers Lacewell Dennis, and William Weatherford Dennis.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Mom’s caregivers and to RN Ellen Hernandez for their constant dedication to her care and well-being.

Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 immediately prior to her Celebration of Life on August 21, 2026 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Rockport, TX. A reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be on Monday, August24, 2026 at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro, TX.
