Eilene was born into a Christian family on December 19, 1932, in Montcalm, West Virginia to parents Andrew R. and Mamie E. Harman. With her father as a young minister, she grew up singing in church with her sisters. She was a sickly child and couldn’t attend school until she was eight years old. Her mother taught her math, and how to read and write. When she was able to attend, her teacher promoted her to second grade even though she was very small. She was a bright child and was often used by her teacher to help the other students with their own class work.
Eilene was known for her deep faith in Christ; she loved her Lord. Her poems and unwavering faith were a testament to those who knew her. May we continue to carry on Eilene’s legacy of faith and devotion. Her legacy isn’t just memories; it’s an active inheritance of wisdom, love, and spiritual strength.
