Doris Ruttiger

Doris Sue Field Ruttiger passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 88.

She was the youngest child born to Ella Myers Field and George Edwin Field on January 3, 1934 in Gander Slough, Texas.

She graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio at the age of 16 where she developed many lifelong friendships. Doris worked several years as a legal secretary and as a church secretary including First Presbyterian Church of Rockport, Texas.

On February 12, 1953 she married Frank Robert Ruttiger and this union would last for 47 years until his death in 2000.

Frank retired from the Santa Fe Railroad and the couple moved to Rockport in 1976. They spent time enjoying their friends from the Santa Fe, their Lamar neighbors, and their grandchildren. Doris was actively involved in the Lamar Women’s Club, the Lamar Cemetery Association, and various activities in their community. She especially enjoyed the history of Lamar, including documenting the past and sharing this with others.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank; her parents; her sister Edwina Sargent and brother Gene Field.

She is survived by her daughters Karen Milton (Bob) and Kristen Wilkerson (Kent); grandchildren David Milton (Ranjana), Sean Milton, Kristopher Milton, Lauren Wolfe (Kevin), and Daniel Wilkerson (Julia); great-grandchildren David Milton, Callie Wolfe, Kyle Elizabeth Wolfe, and Emma Wilkerson; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends including her Bentwood Lane neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lamar Women’s Club or the Lamar Volunteer Fire Department.

The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice and health care members at Brookdale – Trinity Towers for their care and support during the last few months of her life.

Memorial Service will be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes in Rockport. at 1:00P.M., Saturday, May 14, 2022.
