Rockport

Donald Leon “Don” Gibson was born on November 30, 1938, in Waco, Texas and passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025. He was 87 years old. Don served in the Army reserves for 15 years and attended Texas A & M University for a period of time. He moved to Port Aransas, Texas in 1961 where he met his wife, Faye. The two were married on September 12, 1963, and raised three children. Don worked for the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas for more than 25 years. He retired in 1995 and in 1983 he and his family moved to Rockport, Texas.

Don was a devoted husband, and loving father and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved watching just about any sport on TV and especially loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. He loved being outside and you could often find him in his workshop tinkering on boats and boat motors for friends or just spending time creating and mastering his carpentry skills.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Fickle and Herman Gibson, as well as his grandson, Travis Michael Christopher Gibson. Don leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Faye Lorraine Gibson, his three children, Michael Hilary Gibson and wife, Shelly of Rockport, Texas; Deirdre Michelle Conway and husband, Scott; and Kevin Leon Gibson and wife, Michele of Rockport, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Austin Michael Anthony Gibson of Farmers Branch, Texas, Michael John Conway of Van, Texas, Melissa Anne Cox of Rockwall, Texas, Nicholas Scott Conway of Richardson, Texas, Kyler Leon Gibson of Annaville, Texas, and Erica Lynn Gibson of Rockport, Texas, along with four great-granddaughters, Gwenyth Conway, Lydia and Cecilia Cox, and Jenna Jayroe.
