We celebrate the life of Deryl Nelson Davis, a remarkable man who filled our world with love, laughter, and adventure. Born on October 26, 1944, in Wellington, Kansas, Deryl spent much of his formative years in the vibrant Valley, where he cultivated friendships and countless memories. He peacefully passed away on September 2, 2026, surrounded by family and love.

Deryl proudly served his country as an Army veteran during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life, Elke (Draths) Davis. Together, they enjoyed an incredible 62 years of adventure, laughter, and happy memories that will echo through the hearts of all who knew them.

His career spanned a multitude of roles—whether as a crew boat captain, floorhand, motorman for Marine Drilling, mobile home salesman, or working for Frito Lay, Deryl approached every job with tenacity and good humor. He made it his mission to live life to the fullest, and he did just that.

A true lover of the ocean, Deryl cherished the moments spent fishing and traveling in his motorhome with Elke, always kicking off their trips to the tune of "On the Road Again." Their travels also led them to casinos, where it mattered not if they won or lost; what counted was the joy of being together, making memories that would last a lifetime.

Deryl's passion for life extended beyond fishing and travel—he enjoyed breeding parrots with his wife, flipping homes (including some famed $5,000 FEMA trailers), and most recently, cultivating and selling beautiful Plumerias from his cherished nursery.

He was immensely proud of his family, frequently reminding them, “If it wasn’t for me, all of you wouldn’t be here!” Deryl will be greatly missed by his beloved daughter, Diana DeLaRosa (Johnny Simmons) of Rockport, Texas, his grandchildren—Amber (Travis) Lopez of Rockport and Lindsey (Daniel) Landeros of Missouri—and his great-grandchildren: Sydnie, Travis, and Lillie Lopez, along with Braiden, Nikolai, and Zachariah Landeros. He is also survived by his sister, Janette Herrin, and his brother, Benny (Linda) Davis.

Rest in peace, Deryl. Your legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will carry on through all of us.
