Del McLain

Del Pratt McLain passed away at the age of 89 years old on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was born on August 20, 1934, attended Frost High School in Frost, Texas and later moved to Rockport to begin his career with Sun Oil Company. He worked at several locations for Sun Oil in the Rockport area. After working 33 years with Sun Oil Company, Del changed careers and went into the Real Estate and Insurance business. He received his Real Estate brokers license and Insurance brokers license at the same time. Del joined Whitney-Vaky Insurance Company in the mid seventies and eventually became a partner in that company. He had the exclusive sales of Allstate Insurance in Rockport.

When interviewed at his retirement with Whitney-Vaky Insurance Company, he was asked what made him the man that he was and he said, “I was taught from an early age to “Put First Things First” my priorities have been my maker, my family, and my profession. This to me is a no fail formula.”

He was a well-respected business man. Del even ventured in the banking business and was on the Board of Directors for Rockport Bank and later IBC Bank of Rockport.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, did some volunteering for Good Samaritans and enjoyed a game of golf. He was a beloved husband to Wynell of 67 years and a father to their three children.

Del is survived by his daughter, Patricia Reedy (David) and son, John Michael McLain (Kim). His grandchildren, Travis Huff, Desirae Reedy, & Allison McLain Brown (Chadd).

Del is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Wynell and his oldest daughter Paul McLain Huff (Robert). His grandchildren, Joshua Reedy and Ryan Reedy.
