David Kulhanek

May 31, 1955 — May 12, 2021

David Lee Kulhanek died on May 12, 2021, from the Coronavirus (COVID-19), at the age of 65 in Aransas Pass, Texas. He was born May 31, 1955, in Bay City, Texas.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Jeannette Kulhanek.

He is survived by his loving son Jacob Kulhanek; ex-wife Elizabeth Lehman; brother, Joseph, and sister-in-law Tanya Kulhanek; and sisters Shirley and brother-in-law Edward Kolenovsky and Theresa and brother-in-law Andrew Keilers. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Before his recent retirement, he worked as a machinist for most of his life, as a delivery driver for Anheuser-Busch, and later on as a head product inspector within the oil field industry. David had a gift that allowed him to strike up a conversation with anyone. To him, there was no such thing as a stranger. His laughter was loud and contagious.

For those close to him knew that he had a passion for everything that is music. From jazz to blues and country to rock, he never just settled on one genre. He shared his love of music with his son, friends, and family; attending many shows and listening to countless recordings.

Later in life, this same passion translated into his personal faith as well as his love for his country. A fitting musical example is – Bob Dylan’s "Slow Train Coming" and the song "Gotta Serve Somebody" with the following chorus:

"But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
Indeed you're gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody"

David truly lived life to the fullest, and in the end, he clearly understood who he was and the importance of his personal relationship with the Lord. His jovial character rubbed off on everyone he encountered and his family knows he will be missed and thought of frequently.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 10 a.m. at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 814 E Main St, Rockport, TX 78382. A luncheon will be provided after the Memorial service.
