Obituary

Daniel Charles Boylan was born on November 2, 1986, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Larry Dean Boylan and Kimberli Ann Detrick. The fifth of seven children.

On June 7, 2026, Daniel died traveling to the movies with his nephew Tomas, on a road he knew by heart. He loved the outdoors. Camping, hiking, and disc off and exploring were not hobbies to Daniel; they were how he made sense of the world. In the kitchen and at the grill, Daniel was something special. When someone once asked him why he didn't cook professionally, he smiled and said, "I only cook for family and friends."

Daniel was a patriot. He held the Constitution and the Bill of Rights close to his heart, and loved his time at the gun range. He believed in something bigger than himself, and he lived like it.  For many years, Daniel volunteered his Sunday mornings at the Humane Society of Rockport for the dogs who had no one. This was not an obligation to him, it was a calling. He had a gift for recognizing worth in the ones the world had passed by.

He joined Ron Hoover and built a career as a lead RV technician, earning many certifications and the respect of everyone around him. He was named employee of the month, not once, but several times. He loved what he did.

But of everything Daniel built in Rockport, nothing compared to what he found the day he rescued a small puppy from freezing to death.

Lezlie became his best friend. From that moment on, they were inseparable. Daniel trained her as a service dog, had her licensed and registered, and rarely went a single day without her by his side. She was not just a pet, she was his companion. When she was recently diagnosed with cancer, it broke him in a way that few things ever had. He loved her through it, the way he loved everyone.

Even at the very end, Daniel was not alone. And neither was she.

Daniel did not seek fame or recognition. He was a brother, a son, an uncle, a friend, a volunteer, a coworker, and a neighbor who gave more than he ever took. He loved life.
