Chon Tamez

Rockport, Texas

Chon T. Tamez, 94, beloved husband, father and grandfather was called to his eternal resting place on August 15, 2018. He entered this world on May 1, 1924 in Allende NL, Mexico to Manuel and Josefa Tamez. Chon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, lifetime member of Knights of Columbus and GI Forum. He was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Honor in 1958 for risking his life to save another.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Oralia Cruz Morales Tamez and Gerardo Morales Tamez; five brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Hortencia "Tencha" Morales Tamez of Rockport, TX; four daughters, Elida "Neli" Morales Tamez-Mendez (Ernesto) of Corpus Christi, TX, Grace Morales Tamez Young (Dan) of San Antonio, TX, Minerva Morales Tamez of League City, TX, Oralia "Lille" Morales Tamez of Dale, TX; sister, Maria DelCarmen Marroquin of Allende, NL Mexico; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 1:00p.m.-9:00p.m. with Rosary recited at 4:00p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport. Interment will follow at Rockport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
