Charlie Walls, Jr.

September 19, 1938 — February 28, 2022

Rockport

Charlie Hilton Walls Jr was born on September 19, 1938 in Logansport, LA to Octavia and Charlie Hilton  Walls Sr.

He was educated in Sabine Parish LA. While living in LA, he was a member of his father’s church, Rev Charlie Walls Sr.

In 1957, Charlie moved from Louisiana to Rockport TX to begin his adult life. He went to work as a commercial shrimper along with his brother-in-law Calvin Luddington. Here they worked for Casterline Shrimp Company. In 1958 he returned to Louisiana to get the rest of his family and move them to Rockport as well. He later met and married the Love of his Life Pearlene Jones Walls.

Charlie became a member of Rockport Church of God under the leadership of Rev V.V. Lister and was a lifelong member. While a member of the Rockport Church of God, he again had the privilege of being under the leadership and guidance of his father. Over the years he held numerous titles within the church including Chairman of the Board, President of the Brotherhood, Choir member, Usher, and anywhere he was needed within the church. He was also an active member of the Gideon International North Camp for over 40 years. Yes, he was a good and faithful servant.

In 1961 he was drafted into the US Army where he served until he received his honorable discharge in 1964. After returning from the army, he went back to work in the shrimping industry for the Casterline shrimp Co. He remained there until he and his brother James, decided to form their own partnership. He remained in the industry until his retirement, which was over 50 yrs.

Charlie was never one to sit around in the house for too long, he was always doing something and he loved the outdoors. After he retired, he was able to work in his yard again on a regular basis, usually daily. That meant taking care of his grass, which all the kids knew from an early age not to walk on Papa’s grass. He loved his flowers, from the Perwinkles to the Hibiscus, his Roses and his Wedelias he grew. He also planted okra, tomatoes, watermelons, and pineapples. As long as he was able and the weather was nice you could find him outside in the yard working or just sitting enjoying the sun.

He also enjoyed traveling to any and everywhere that he possibly could. Whether it be a ride that was just for the day or he might just tell Mom to pack her bag incase they decided to stay the night somewhere. You just had to always be ready on a moment’s notice.

As a Godly man, he was always willing to help and do for others in any way that he could. No matter what he always saw the good in others.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Octavia and Charlie Walls Sr, one son Trinelle Walls, one granddaughter Donnecia Williams, one son in law Paris Huff Jr, and a more than special niece Trina Latoya Walls. He was also preceded by two brothers, Willie and James Walls Sr; three sisters, Rachel Luddington, Bertha Bell, and Annie Bell Jefferson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pearlene; two daughters, Pamela Walls of Rockport, TX and Angela Walls of Lawton, OK; six grandchildren, Iesha Walls and Jhoquez Huff of Rockport, TX, Yonnika Huff of San Marcus, TX, Ashaya Walls of Temple, TX, Azaria Walls and Nakia Butler of Lawton, OK; three great grand daughters, that he affectionately referred to as The Little Dress Tails or his little Buck a Roos, Simone and A’Lisa Price San Marcos, TX and Novia Sanders of Temple, TX.;  and four god children, Dustin Walls, Amber Cherry, Kathy Gardley, and Charlie Falcon.

He is also survived by four brothers: John Walls Sr and Isaac Walls of Houston, TX, Rudolph Walls (Sallee) of Corpus Christi, TX, Charles Gosey of Oakdale, LA; one Brother in law, Frank Bell of Los Angeles, CA; four sisters, Ada Matthews, Annie Jean Burns, Shirley Grimes (Calvin), and Mary Whitfield (Dan) all of Houston, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

As a true Man of God, we know that he has earned his crown. Yes, we will miss him, but God loved him most and said,” Thy good and Faithful Servant Well done. “
