Charles Floyd Hightower, a spirited man with a sharp wit and a heart full of love, passed away on August 29, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on January 23, 1929, in Stratford, Oklahoma, he spent much of his life in California before settling down in Aransas Pass, Texas. Charles proudly served his country in both the Navy and Air Force, dedicating over 45 years to military service. He was a proud lifetime member of the Sergeant's Association and the Disabled Veterans, showcasing his commitment to honoring those who served. He earned his GED from Tempe, Arizona University, proving that it's never too late to pursue education. In 1952, Charles married the love of his life, Loretta Jean Hightower, in Rockport, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful family that included three sons: Alden D. Maddox, Ronald E. Maddox, and Curtis R. Hightower. Charles's love extended to his 13 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry on his legacy of love and laughter. Known for his sarcastic humor and teasing nature, Charles enjoyed spending time at flea markets—always ready to engage in a good-natured exchange. His favorite food was biscuits and gravy, and he was fond of the color blue. Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Loretta, their three sons, and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, one son, his mother and father, and seven sisters. 

A gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Prairie View Cemetery will on September 4, 2026, Flowers can be sent there in memory of Charles and in honor of the joy he brought to so many. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest peacefully, Charles.
