Charles Leo Castor, Jr, aka “Sunny”, 79 of Port Aransas, Texas, passed away on April 8, 2026, surrounded by his family, Father James Derkits, and Saena, his four-legged best friend.
Sunny was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 3, 1946, to Charles Leo Castor, Sr and Elizabeth Jane Huey. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1964. From there, Sunny attended SMU University, studying business, and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, where he had many fond memories.
Sunny moved back to Port Aransas in 1971 to work with his father and Tony Piper on land developments in Port Aransas. Some of his developments include Mustang Beach, currently known as Island Moorings. He also built an Arnold Palmer links golf course across from Island Moorings along the beach. He dreamed big and had wonderful plans for future developments on the island.
Sunny loved duck hunting, fishing, his children, grandchildren, his church, and his dogs.
Sunny was a member of Trinity by the Sea Episcopal Church, where he raised his three children and served on the vestry for many years.
Sunny spent many years in Palm Beach with his former partner, Judith Grubman. When Sunny came back to Texas, he was known for his Palm Beach attire and fancy style.
Remaining to cherish Sunny’s memory are his three children with his former wife, Susan Dee Bodenhamer. Children, Charles Leo Castor, III (Meredith), Laurel Elisabeth Castor
(Martim) and Cathryn Castor Morrison (Raleigh); grandchildren Raleigh (Dos) Morrison, Jr, Reagan Morrison, Maria Isabel Mello, Charles Leo Castor, IV (Charlie), and Caroline Lois Castor.
Preceding Sunny in death are Charles Leo Castor, Sr (father), Elizabeth Huey Castor (Mother), and David Warren Castor (Brother).
A memorial service will be held at Trinity by the Sea Episcopal Church, located at 433 Trojan Street, Port Aransas on Friday, April 17 at 10:00. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Sunny’s memory can be made to Trinity by the Sea Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 346, Port Aransas, Texas 78373.
