In Loving Memory of Cecil Junior Hawkins July 29, 1944 - September 6, 2025

Cecil Junior Hawkins, a spirited South Texan whose life was marked by athleticism, adventure, and unwavering devotion to family and friends, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 6, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born on July 29, 1944, in a Corpus Christi hospital to Cecil Fain Hawkins and Minnie Rebecca Stark Hawkins, Cecil was raised in Portland, Texas, where his love for the outdoors and sports took root early. A standout athlete at Gregory-Portland High School, he was known for his competitive drive, natural talent, and camaraderie on and off the field.

After high school, Cecil began his professional journey with Carnation Company in Houston, Texas. His mechanical skill and strong work ethic later led him back to South Texas, where he contributed to the growth of H-E-B, working in the refrigeration department and helping build new stores across the state.

Cecil's zest for life was perhaps most vividly expressed through his passion for motorcycles. An avid aficionado, he once owned 17 different bikes at the same time, though his beloved Harley Sportster remained a constant companion for many years.

From boyhood, Cecil shared a close bond with legendary South Texas sportsman William Williges. Under Williges' mentorship, Cecil honed his hunting and fishing skills, becoming not only a skilled outdoorsman but a trusted companion in countless adventures across the Texas landscape.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Peggy June Tibbetts, Barbara Jean Ray, and Mary Jane Laird; and his brother Edmond Joel Hawkins. He is survived by his sister Joyce Starr of San Antonio, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom cherished his humor, generosity, and loving spirit.

A devoted brother, uncle, and friend, Cecil's warmth, humor, and legacy will live on in the stories shared around campfires, family tables, on open roads, or anywhere a shotgun or rod and reel bring family and friends together.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Bell Whittington public Library's William Williges South Texas Sporting Collection, honoring Cecil's lifelong love of nature and community.
