Obituary

Carita Kee Gould was born on July 11, 1932, in Hennessey, Oklahoma, delivered by her grandfather, Dr. Ambrose Dixon, on her grandparents’ dining room table. Her proud parents were Robert “Bob” Kee and Louise Dixon Kee Raley.

As a child, Carita lived with her family in Oklahoma, Kansas, and California. She met her husband, James “Jim” Gould, at Oklahoma A&M University, now Oklahoma State University. During Jim’s 20-year Army career, they shared adventures while stationed in New Jersey, Arizona, Taiwan, Texas, Germany, Indiana, Thailand, Arizona (again), Hawaii, and Kentucky before retiring to Rockport, Texas, in 1973.

Carita enjoyed telling stories about many things including her travels abroad, her childhood, her children and grandchildren. In Rockport, she flourished as a watercolorist, building on early works of art which included all sorts of mediums. She shared her love of art with anyone who was interested and especially encouraged little ones. She was a longtime member of the Rockport Art Association, a lifetime member of the Rockport Yacht Club, and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was deeply committed to the Castaways mission and served faithfully from its beginning until she could no longer be away from home. She was also an avid bird watcher and a formidable bridge player, earning her ACBL Ruby Life Master rank.

She is survived by her sons, Mitch Gould (Marianne) of New Braunfels, TX, and Steve Gould (Laura) of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Christy Linsley (Keith) of Rockport, TX, and Terry Spang (John, deceased) of Rockport, TX; brother, Mike Kee (Vicky) of Mooreland, OK; recently discovered brother/cousin, Larry Brandt (Daniela) of Port Ludlow, WA; sister-in-law, Jean Gould of Rockport, TX; grandchildren, Jason Gould (Casey) of Frisco, TX, Travis Fitzgold (Katy) of Austin, TX, Jaime Gould of Albuquerque, NM, Carita Gould of Albuquerque, NM, James Ogle of The Woodlands, TX, Anne Robbins (Randy) of Bulverde, TX, and Bob Spang of Cypress, TX; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Carita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Gould; her sister, Anne Schneider; and her brothers, John “Buddy” Kee and Jamie Kee.

She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Rockport, TX, located at 801 E Main Street. A private interment will be held in Oklahoma at a later date.
