Bobbie Leah Saulter, age one hundred, passed away peacefully, May 19, 2022, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born Bobbie Leah Williams, January 8, 1922, to Robert and Eva Mellot Williams in Dallas, Texas.
Bobbie graduated from Sunset High School, Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas in 1938. After raising two children, she moved to south Texas, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Trinity University, 1974, majoring in painting, sculpture and printmaking.
She went on to become a noted Texas watercolor and graphic print artist and teacher. A consistent award winner, she appeared in many juried shows. In 1987, she was accepted by Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, South Texas Art League, Watercolor Society of South Texas. She was a gold medallion winner in the National Association of Artists, Santa Fe, Texas. The Notable Women of Texas included her in their 1984 edition. She is a past president of the Watercolor Society of South Texas. Working in water based media; she expresses the spirit and feeling of nature and the world around her. She often remarked, “I like to paint nature larger than life! It’s an invitation to look more closely.” Her work is in many private collections both statewide and nationally.
She is predeceased by husbands: John W. Cromwell of Dallas and Lancaster, Texas; Rev. Frank E. Jarrett of San Antonio, Texas; William Spencer of Bandera, Texas and Robert Saulter of Corpus Christi, Texas.
She married Robert Saulter on January 15, 2000, in Corpus Christi where Bobbie moved some years earlier. They competed successfully in many bridge tournaments, loved to square dance, and traveled extensively.
She is survived by her son, John W. Cromwell, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lea of New Canaan, CT and daughter, Barbara S. Cromwell of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren: William Cromwell, Samuel Dukore, and Lucile Dukore and four great grandchildren.
