Augrelia “Janie” Benavidez, 99, of Aransas Pass, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2025, in Aransas Pass after a brief battle with dementia. She was born on June 16, 1925, in Goliad, Texas, to Trinidad Jaurequi and was an only child.
Augrelia was a dedicated housekeeper, skilled seamstress, and avid crafter who especially loved sewing for her children. She cherished family gatherings, especially during Christmas when she upheld the tradition of making tamales and reminiscing about the good old days.
She is survived by her children:
Guadalupe “Mary” Moreno (Joseph) of Rosemead, California, Jesusa “Sue” Campbell (Jerry) of Texas City, Texas, Manuela “Mamie” Tijerina (Thomas) of Victoria, Texas, Gregory Benavidez (Anna) of Aransas Pass, Texas, Diane Garcia (Ralph) of Victoria, Texas, Emma Benavidez of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Amelia “Mimi” Sanchez (daughter-in-law).
She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Augrelia was preceded in death by Antonio Sanchez, Maria Elva Rodriguez, Jose Benavidez, and her nephew, Antonio Sanchez Jr.
