Deacon Tony passed away on Aug 11,2024, He was 90 years old. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 11, 1934, to Eugene and Christine (Hermes) Postert. He was a retired teacher. He was the fourth child and 'baby' of the family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Christine; his sister, Kathleen Goldapp; his brother, Eugene J Postert, Jr.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Lee Richter; sister Lanell Gilchrist, Kaukauna, Wis.; children, Amy Kate (Darby) Sharpe of Harlingen, TX; Anthony K., Jr. of Washington, D.C.; Agatha Karen (Bruce) Bennett of Kyle, TX; Andrew Keith (Mila) of Chula Vista, Cal.; Aaron Kent (Christine) of Martindale, TX; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces in both Texas and Wisconsin.
Tony grew up in Alice, TX, and went to high school at St. Anthony's Apostolic High School in San Antonio, TX.
A year after graduation he joined the Army. He took basic training at Aberdeen, MD, advance schooling at Atlanta General Depot and was assigned to the Engineers at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was then transferred to the Aviation Engineers at Beale Air Force Base, Ca. Later he was assigned overseas duty in the British West Indies. He was production and control chief for Headquarters Company. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in May 1961.
He went to Mexico City College, Mexico, D.F. for three years and then transfered to Texas A and I College where he earned his B.S. Degree in Secondary Education. He taught for one year at Williams Adams High School in Alice. He went to Guam to teach. On returning to the States, he went to Harlingen, TX and taught ninth grade English. He was also an official for football and basketball. He retired from teaching there.
He was ordained as Deacon on November 8, 2008, by Bishop Carmody.
He was a member of Saint Mary, Star of the Sea parish; Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus; Past District Deputy, Grand Exalted Ruler of the BPO Elks; NRA; Retired Teachers' Association; America Legion; he was a disabled Vet. Tony was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Rio Grande Council. He was a Scoutmaster and earned his Wood Badge beads.
Tony claimed he was married all his life, and he didn't start living until he married Dorothy on December 31, 1960. Thank you, Dorothy, for having a character like me. I love you so much.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Charlie Marshal funeral homes.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:30-7:30PM at Charlie Marshall Aransas Pass. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30PM. Mass will be on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10am at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Graveside will be Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 10am at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
