Anita "Jody" Cousins

August 26, 1928 — May 3, 2026

Rockport

Anita Jo Lloyd Cousins, known as “Jody” to friends and family and as “Gogo” to the grandkids, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockport, TX on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the age of 97. Jody was born in Dallas, TX on August 26, 1928 to Herman Hawkins Lloyd and Gladys Louise Bratton Lloyd. She was baptized at the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Cliff in Dallas at the age of 10. She grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, dancing and singing on local Dallas stages. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1945 at the age of 16. She attended Texas Tech in Lubbock for one year where she belonged to the social club, Las Chapparitas, then transferred to SMU in Dallas where she belonged to Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Along came a dashing young Randolph Gropp Cousins visiting from Florida and swept her off her feet. They married on April 15, 1950 at Tyler Street Methodist Church in Dallas. After getting married, they lived in Orlando, Florida for a short time but couldn’t wait to get back to Texas. Janet Lee was born in Dallas in 1952 and Peggy Lee, also born in Dallas in 1955. Randolph’s job took them to Tyler TX, Twin Falls ID, Salt Lake City UT, Orlando FL then to Houston where they lived in the Memorial area for the next 27 years, having 3 different Barryknoll Ln. addresses! Jody was a real estate agent in the Memorial area for 29 years where her clients became her friends. Jody and Randolph built their dream home in Tomball, TX where they lived until Randolph’s death in 2007. Jody continued living in Tomball until she moved to Rockport, TX in 2023.

Jody will be remembered as someone who cherished her many friends, as proven by her Christmas card list of over 300 people where she wrote personal notes on each card every year. Many of these were friends since her childhood days. She set an example of always seeing the good in everyone, loving her family and friends unconditionally, being a helping hand to anyone who needed it and hiding the Snickers bars in the fridge vegetable bin (where she knew her kids would never look!)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Hawkins Lloyd and Gladys Louise Bratton Lloyd, her husband, Randolph Gropp Cousins, her sister, Margie Lloyd Stratton, brother-in-law, Bill Stratton and beloved fur baby Jiggs.

She leaves behind 2 daughters: Janet Hagy and husband Lee of Rockport,TX, Peggy Wagner and husband Roger of Littleton, CO. 3 grandchildren: Emily Utigard, and husband Jake of Denver, CO, Amber Hagy and husband Jason Spencer of Austin, TX, Warren Hagy and wife Chelsey of Austin, TX, and 5 great-grandchildren: Lauren Hatfield, Madison Hagy, Luke Hagy, Penelope Utigard and Lulu Utigard, and other beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Jody requested donations be made to Special Pals Animal Shelter, www.specialpals.org, PO Box 841605, Houston, TX 77284, 281-579-7387.
