Alice Romine

August 15, 1936 – August 14, 2022

Alice Romine, a long time Port Aransas resident, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 14th. The original coal miner’s daughter, she was born at home in Montcoal, West Virginia. She married Donald Romine, the boy next door, in 1951 and celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2001.

Alice is preceded in death by her father, Jim Charles, her mother Myrtle Duncan Charles, her brothers Ray, Mickey and Chris, her sisters Phyllis and Irene and her nephew Terry.

She leaves behind a family that loved her very much, son Mike Romine, daughter-in-law Dawn Romine, daughter Sue Rowley, son-in-law Brett Rowley, and son Eric Romine and daughter-in-law Diana Romine. She had 6 grandchildren, Julie, Jillian, Stacy, Shelly, Michael and Katrina and 3 great grandchildren, Brenna, Dylan and Mason.

Alice was a valued employee at the local IGA where she became a fixture of the Port Aransas community for many years. She had an opinion on every subject and no problem expressing herself. There was no doubt you knew where you stood with Miss Alice. She lived in Austin and Lockhart prior to moving to the island. Alice retired after many years as a manufacturing manager for IBM. Sitting on her deck was her favorite pasttime. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, drinking coffee, cruising Facebook and listening to her music. She was an accomplished cookie baking expert and enjoyed cooking biscuits and gravy for her visitors. She loved this community and desired only to live out her life here. Her family is appreciative of all the friends, coworkers and neighbors who participated in helping her achieve this goal.

A tiny person with a huge personality. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 3rd from 1-3pm at the Port Aransas Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amos Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) in Port Aransas, Texas.
