Albert Martin Petty passed away peacefully October 20, 2021 in Portland, Texas. His parents, James Martin (Sam) and Minnie Bell Condra Petty, and his 8 siblings have preceded him to their heavenly reward.
Albert was the 7th of 9 children; James Raymond, Doris D, Ruby Mae, Jack Elbert, Iva Lee, Shirley Neil, Gerald Ray, and Kenneth Glynn. Born on December 1, 1929 Albert spent most of his life in Del Rio, Texas. He joined the Navy during the Korean War and spent most of his time aboard a destroyer in the Pacific. Upon his return home he met and married Alva Jean (Jeanne) Goss in 1952. They had two children, Cherryl Ann Petty Wagner and Shannon Gail Petty Windland.
Albert worked for TexDot for 40 years building highways and bridges. The most memorable bridge being the one over the Pecos River. He received several commendations from the state and was respected for the quality of his work. After retiring from the state, he worked in the engineering department for the City of Del Rio for 8 years.
In 1967, Albert married Jamie Lou Harrison. They enjoyed Square Dancing and making crafts to sell at local markets. Albert and Jamie were members of the First Baptist Church in Del Rio. They were married for 43 years.
The last 5 years were spent at Brookdale Senior Living in Portland, Texas. He made many friends and enjoyed the camaraderie at meals. Happy Hour was his favorite activity with a glass of sweet red wine. He was a thoughtful and kind man. Always taking his family into consideration when making decisions. He is survived by his two daughters; two grandchildren, Amanda Mc Phail Backman and Jennifer Mc Phail Matthews; one great granddaughter, Anna Leigh Backman and one sister-in- law Mary Lou Petty.
A Memorial service will be held at Brookdale Senior Living in Portland Wednesday October 27 at 1:30 and will be conducted by Chaplin Jeffrey Pieprzyca of Harbor Hospice. Albert’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes placed in the family plot at Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio.
