She graduated from Flour Bluff High School May 26, 1967. She worked at Island Retreat for 28 years as a front office manager.
Gayla lived life to its fullest enjoying all the little moments. She loved to chat with family and friends, people watch, and had a smile that could light up a room. Gayla was one of a kind in every way with her amazing sense of humor. She was loved by everyone who knew her, had such an amazing impact on many people’s lives, and was a “mother” to many. She was everyone’s favorite person and gave us so many irreplaceable memories. Her amazing laughter, love for family and friends, and sometimes orneriness made her who we all love and will remember.
A celebration of life will be held on July 28, 2018 in Port Aransas, Texas.

I met Gayla at Island Retreat many years ago. She was always a pleasure to see, always happy and always told you exactly how it was! Was disappointed when she was no longer at Island Retreat and was greatly missed. So sorry to hear of her passing, but will always have great memories of her laughter!

Gayla was such a sweetheart! Our parents, Bill and Barbara Lehmann, knew and loved her for many years at Island Retreat, as did all five of us "kids" and our families from NM, AZ, DE, & VA! She always had the happiest smile for all of us! When Gayla moved to Sea Isle and then San Antonio, she gave her wonderful piano to our mother, Barbara. Mom enjoyed playing it for several years, including during her battle against cancer. We donated the piano to Trinity By The Sea church so that many more could enjoy it! Sending our love and prayers to your whole family! Jody, Rick, Kathy, Wendy, Christi & Families

Gayla was an Island Icon in every way!
I knew her all her life, our dads worked together and our families visited when we were kids. She had a wicked sense of humor, a salty tongue, a smile and personality to light up a room and a heart of gold. Rest in peace.

Gayla was just great. She was down-to-earth and full of fun. She spoke her mind but was a friend to all. She was sorely missed when she moved away, and now we carry her in our heart always.
